The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has lauded the judgment of the Päijät-Häme District Court in Finland, which on Monday sentenced Simon Ekpa to six years imprisonment for terrorism-related offences.
In a statement issued by the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, General Musa described the ruling as a landmark victory in the global fight against terrorism and violent extremism.
He stressed that the conviction underscores the international community’s commitment to holding accountable those who incite violence or finance terrorism, regardless of where they operate.
"This judgment sends a strong message that there is no safe haven for individuals or groups sponsoring or promoting acts of terror against Nigeria or any sovereign state.
"The Armed Forces of Nigeria commend the Finnish authorities for their diligence in ensuring justice is served, the CDS stated.
The CDS commended the coordinated efforts of Nigerian security and intelligence agencies, law enforcement operatives, and diplomats whose collaboration provided the actionable evidence that secured the conviction.
Additionally, He emphasized that the outcome is a testament to the effectiveness of international partnerships in tackling transnational threats.
General Musa assured Nigerians that the military will sustain ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and restore lasting peace and security across the country.
He further called on citizens to remain vigilant and continue to support security agencies in their mission to end insurgency and curb violent separatist movements.
