The Defence Headquarters has rebranded Operation Safe Haven as Operation Enduring Peace, signaling a strategic shift towards achieving sustainable security and stability in Plateau State and surrounding regions.
According to a statement by the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the transformation reflects a renewed commitment to close operational gaps while promoting long-term peace. The revamped operation will prioritize inter-agency collaboration, intelligence-driven strategies, and active community engagement to tackle security challenges more effectively.
Key measures under the new approach include the deployment of additional personnel, reinforcement of logistics and operational assets, and improved welfare packages for troops to enhance operational efficiency and morale.
During his visit to Jos to address troops, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, commended their courage and sacrifices, assuring them of continued support from the Presidency. He urged personnel to intensify efforts to secure Plateau and neighboring states.
"It is time to restore enduring peace. The cycle of destruction and displacement must stop. Between now and December, we must decisively combat the menace threatening our communities," General Musa declared, pledging that the dedication and commitment of troops will be recognized and rewarded.
The launch of Operation Enduring Peace represents a proactive shift in security management, with the Armed Forces emphasizing that the quest for lasting stability requires collaboration from all stakeholders — including political leaders, traditional rulers, religious authorities, and community members.
The CDS reiterated that unity and cooperation remain vital, stressing that rejecting violence, promoting reconciliation, and building trust within communities are key to achieving sustainable peace.
Also speaking, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division, Nigerian Army, and Commander of the operation, Major General E.F. Oyinlola, highlighted the achievements of Operation Safe Haven in tackling diverse security threats across Plateau State. He noted that the transition to Operation Enduring Peace represents a new phase of proactivity.
“This change allows us not only to react to threats but to anticipate and neutralize them before they manifest,” Oyinlola stated.
He appealed to community leaders, religious organizations, civil society groups, youth representatives, and all law-abiding citizens to partner with the Armed Forces in supporting the drive toward lasting peace in the region.
The Armed Forces reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to protecting the lives and property of Nigerians while continuously adapting to emerging security challenges.
