President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved Nigeria’s bid to host the 48th Ordinary General Assembly of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) alongside this year’s CAF Awards Ceremony.

The President made the announcement during the ongoing Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, Kenya, following a meeting with CAF President, Patrice Motsepe.
Those present at the meeting included the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, Special Adviser to the CAF President, Amaju Melvin Pinnick, and CAF Acting General Secretary, Samson Adamu.

The 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly is scheduled to hold in October this year and is expected to attract top football administrators and stakeholders from across the African continent.

The annual assembly serves as one of the most important gatherings in African football, bringing together presidents of CAF’s 54 member associations, representatives of the six zonal unions, and other senior football officials to deliberate on the development and future of the game in Africa.

Nigeria’s hosting of the event is expected to further strengthen the country’s position as a major hub for sports and football administration on the continent.

In addition to the General Assembly, Nigeria will also host the prestigious CAF Awards Ceremony, an annual event that recognises outstanding performances and achievements in African football.

The awards ceremony, known for its glamour and celebration of excellence, honours players, coaches, teams and football administrators who have distinguished themselves during the year under review.

Observers say the approval by President Tinubu underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to sports development and Nigeria’s growing influence in continental football affairs.
