Troops of the Nigerian Army have foiled a terrorist attack and rescued 31 abducted civilians following an assault on worshippers during an Easter service in Ariko Village, Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The incident occurred at an ECWA Church in the community, where terrorists reportedly stormed the service and abducted several congregants. Acting on a distress call, troops swiftly mobilised to the scene and launched a coordinated pursuit operation against the fleeing assailants.
With support from local residents, the troops tracked the terrorists and engaged them in a fierce gun battle. The superior firepower of the military reportedly overwhelmed the attackers, forcing them to abandon 31 hostages, including one injured victim who is currently receiving medical attention.
However, the operation recorded casualties, as the remains of five victims killed by the terrorists were recovered at the scene. Military sources indicated that the fleeing attackers likely suffered significant losses, with blood trails observed along their escape routes.
Security forces have since intensified follow-up operations aimed at tracking the terrorists to their hideouts, rescuing any remaining captives, and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
To strengthen security in the area, additional troops have been deployed to Ariko and surrounding communities to reinforce ongoing operations and prevent further attacks.
The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, as well as defending the nation’s territorial integrity in collaboration with other security agencies and local stakeholders.
Residents have also been urged to support security efforts by providing timely and credible information, stressing that community cooperation remains critical to achieving lasting peace and stability.
