The Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, has issued a stern warning against misconduct within the ranks, while ordering immediate mental and psychological assessments for all personnel to enhance professionalism and operational efficiency.
The directive was announced during an emergency meeting convened by the CP with Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Heads of Tactical Units across the Command.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, the police chief emphasized the need for officers to uphold the highest standards of discipline and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
Sanusi cautioned against any form of misconduct capable of tarnishing the image of the Nigeria Police Force, stressing strict compliance with existing human rights laws. He further directed senior officers to immediately return to their respective areas of responsibility to brief and sensitize their subordinates on the new directives.
The CP also mandated that detailed compliance reports be submitted to the Command Headquarters, in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police. He warned that senior officers would be held accountable for any misconduct by their subordinates, reinforcing a policy of vicarious liability within the Command structure.
In a move aimed at strengthening discipline and improving welfare, Sanusi ordered the Command’s Medical Director, ACP (Dr.) Ifayase Olabanji Akinola, alongside the Police Counseling Unit, to commence comprehensive psychological and mental health assessments for all personnel.
The exercise, scheduled to begin on May 4, 2026, will start with junior officers and is designed to promote emotional stability, sound judgment, and improved performance both on and off duty.
The FCT Police Command also urged residents to remain law-abiding and vigilant, encouraging them to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through designated emergency lines.
The latest measures signal a renewed push by the Command to reinforce discipline, accountability, and public trust in policing across the Federal Capital Territory.
