The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) has recorded significant operational successes in its ongoing nationwide counter terrorism campaign, neutralising insurgents, rescuing kidnapped civilians, and dismantling criminal networks across multiple theatres.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Director, Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, detailing military activities conducted between March 30 and April 2, 2026.
According to the statement, the operations were carried out under the strategic direction of the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Olatunbosun Oluyede, with troops sustaining pressure on terrorist and criminal elements across the country.
In the North East, troops of Operation Hadin Kai intensified offensives against Boko Haram, ISWAP, and JAS terrorists. In Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, troops ambushed insurgents and recovered ammunition after intercepting them on motorcycles. A separate patrol in Pridang led to the neutralisation of one terrorist.
Troops also foiled a mass abduction attempt at Dutsen Kura, where swift military response forced terrorists to abandon kidnapped civilians, who were subsequently rescued.
Further operations in Bama Local Government Area on April 1 saw troops, in collaboration with Hybrid Forces, neutralise eight terrorists. Security forces also apprehended two teenage escapees from a terrorist enclave, while in Adamawa State, three suspects were arrested, including one who confessed to involvement in previous attacks and plans to target Mubi Barracks.
Additionally, a notorious kidnapper linked to attacks in Bauchi State was arrested, while an arms courier conveying 700 rounds of ammunition was intercepted.
In the North West, Operation Fansan Yamma troops conducted coordinated operations across Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara States. Troops responded to terrorist attacks in Zamfara, rescuing five civilians, while follow-up patrols led to the neutralisation of insurgents and destruction of their hideouts.
Further gains included the recovery of weapons and communication devices, as well as the rescue of abducted victims in Sokoto and Katsina States. Several injured victims were also evacuated for medical treatment.
In the North Central region, troops under Operation Savannah Shield foiled kidnapping attempts in Kwara State, arresting two suspects and recovering weapons. The military said operations in the region continue to disrupt criminal activities in collaboration with local security stakeholders.
Similarly, under Operation Enduring Peace, troops arrested two suspects linked to a murder case in Plateau State. In a separate incident, a kidnapped victim was rescued in Barkin Ladi after troops pursued fleeing criminals, leading to the victim’s safe reunion with family members.
In the South-South, Operation Delta Safe troops intensified efforts against economic sabotage, intercepting illegal mining activities in Akwa Ibom State. In Rivers State, troops uncovered an illegal crude oil refining site, recovering about 10,000 litres of stolen crude and associated equipment.
Meanwhile, in the South East, troops of Operation Udo Ka recorded breakthroughs against criminal elements linked to IPOB/ESN. A suspected member was arrested in Ogun State, while another suspect identified as a nurse providing medical support to the group was apprehended in Anambra State.
In a related development, security forces arrested a high-profile suspect, Miss Ezinna Anthonia, who reportedly provided medical services to injured fighters. Authorities said her arrest, alongside others, has significantly disrupted the group’s logistics and support network.
The military high command reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining operations across all theatres, assuring Nigerians of continued efforts to safeguard lives, protect national assets, and maintain territorial integrity.
The AFN also called on citizens to support ongoing operations by providing credible and timely information to security agencies.
