The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Richard Pheelangwa, has reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to supporting the Nigerian Air Force in the discharge of its constitutional mandate to protect the nation and its citizens.

Pheelangwa gave the assurance during a courtesy visit to the Chief of the Air Staff, Sunday Kelvin Aneke, at the Air Force Headquarters in Abuja as part of his ongoing familiarisation tour of the Services under the Ministry of Defence.

According to the Permanent Secretary, the visit was aimed at strengthening institutional collaboration between the Ministry and the Nigerian Air Force through the establishment of a direct working relationship.

He explained that enhanced cooperation between both institutions would further reinforce the operational capacity of the Air Force in safeguarding lives and property across the country.

Pheelangwa commended the Chief of the Air Staff and his management team for their professionalism and dedication to duty. He also acknowledged the leadership of President Ahmed Tinubu, noting that his commitment to national security continues to guide the strategic direction of the Armed Forces.

In his response, Air Marshal Aneke expressed appreciation for the visit and the continued support of the Ministry of Defence. He, however, highlighted several areas requiring urgent attention to further enhance the operational efficiency and morale of Air Force personnel.

Among the key issues raised were the need for timely approval and release of operational funds, the acquisition of additional helicopters to strengthen air operations, and the provision of adequate accommodation and infrastructure as the service continues to expand.

The Air Chief also called for the regularisation of teaching and hospital staff working in Air Force schools and medical facilities across the country.

Aneke assured the Permanent Secretary of the Nigerian Air Force’s full cooperation with the Ministry of Defence in achieving the nation’s security objectives.

The meeting was attended by directors from the Ministry of Defence as well as principal staff officers from the Air Force Headquarters.
