The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has urged corps members to strengthen Nigeria’s unity by relating with one another as brothers and sisters, irrespective of ethnic or cultural differences.
General Nafiu gave the charge while addressing the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream One corps members at the NYSC Lagos State Orientation Camp in Iyana-Ipaja.
He encouraged them to remain selfless, maximise the opportunities available during the service year, build lasting friendships and establish relationships that would further deepen national integration.
According to him, the corps members represent the future leaders of the country, describing them as potential governors, senators, members of state and national assemblies, presidents, vice-presidents and captains of industry.
He also advised them to embrace the NYSC experience fully and respect the culture and traditions of their host communities in Lagos State.
The DG further urged the corps members to prepare for life after service by acquiring entrepreneurial skills while in camp, noting that this would empower them to become self-reliant and also create employment opportunities for others.
General Nafiu revealed that the Bank of Industry has set aside a N2 billion business loan facility for interested corps members, adding that other financial institutions and organisations, including Wema Bank, NNPC Foundation, Kudimata, Access Bank and Unity Bank, are also offering business loans at minimal interest rates.
Earlier, the Lagos State NYSC Coordinator, Christiana Salmwang, informed the Director-General that the corps members had shown enthusiasm and readiness to serve the nation since their arrival at the camp.
She also disclosed that construction work was ongoing at the site of the state’s new permanent orientation camp located in Agbowa, Ikorodu.
