The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s unwavering commitment to protect and safeguard officers and personnel of the Ministry of Defence and its agencies while performing their lawful duties.
Badaru gave the assurance during the official kickoff of the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day (AFCRD), themed “Valour, Sacrifice and Unity: Honouring Our Heroes.” The theme, he noted, aptly embodies the enduring spirit of service, heroism, and patriotism that defines the Nigerian Armed Forces.
In response to recent developments involving the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and an officer of the Nigerian military engaged in an official assignment. He emphasized that every officer acting within the scope of the law and in service to the nation deserves full institutional protection from harassment, intimidation, or harm.
The Defence Minister noted that the Nigerian Armed Forces and related agencies operate strictly within constitutional boundaries, ensuring the safety, peace, and stability of the country.
He cautioned against actions or confrontations that may undermine the dignity and authority of uniformed personnel in the discharge of their national duties.
“Officers on lawful duty represent the authority of the Nigerian state. They must be treated with respect and accorded the necessary support to perform their responsibilities effectively,” Badaru stated.
He assured that the Ministry would continue to strengthen its internal protocols to ensure that officers remain professional, disciplined, and fully protected while serving the interests of the nation.
Badaru further urged all public office holders and citizens to cooperate with security agencies, stressing that synergy and mutual respect among institutions of government are vital for national progress and peace.
