In a move to deepen public appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s Armed Forces, the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has unveiled a new digital innovation the “Thank A Soldier” QR Code designed to enable Nigerians at home and abroad to send messages of gratitude and encouragement to serving troops, as well as tributes to fallen heroes.
The initiative, announced as part of the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day (AFCRD) activities, represents a modern and interactive approach to national remembrance and military appreciation.
According to the Minister, the QR Code initiative provides a simple yet powerful way for citizens to engage directly with the Armed Forces by scanning the code to share personalized messages, prayers, and notes of support. These messages will be relayed to military formations across the country, reaching troops on the frontlines and families of the fallen.
"This innovation aligns with our drive to modernize national engagement through digital inclusion and youth participation. It allows Nigerians everywhere to express gratitude to those who defend our nation’s sovereignty,” Badaru explained.
The “Thank A Soldier” initiative will be launched officially during the Armed Forces Celebration, which features a week-long programme of national events, including the National Emblem Appeal Launch by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on 27 November 2025, special religious services, a humanitarian outreach, national symposium, and the wreath-laying ceremony on 15 January 2026 the climax of the commemoration.
The Minister urged Nigerians to actively participate in the celebration and to proudly wear the Remembrance Emblem as a symbol of unity and respect for the men and women of the Armed Forces.
“As we begin this year’s commemoration, let us honour our past, support our present, and secure our future. Together, we can build a stronger, safer, and more united Nigeria,” he said.
The “Thank A Soldier” QR Code underscores the Ministry’s commitment to bridging the emotional gap between citizens and their defenders ensuring that the bravery, resilience, and sacrifices of Nigeria’s Armed Forces continue to inspire national pride and unity.
