The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has launched a series of targeted airstrikes in Niger State, neutralizing several terrorists and dismantling key logistical hubs in a renewed effort to curb rising insecurity in the region.
The coordinated strikes, conducted under Operation FANSAN YAMMA Sector 1 between June 24 and 26, 2025, were in direct response to recent waves of violence, including cattle rustling and attacks on local communities.
In a statement released on Friday, Director of Public Relations and Information at NAF Headquarters, Air Vice Marshal Edward Ehimen Ejodame, confirmed that the air operations were executed in synergy with other military and security agencies, offering crucial support to ground troops engaged in ongoing counter-terrorism campaigns.
It was stated that actionable intelligence revealed movements of terrorists connected to criminal activities in Kakihun and Kumbashi communities on June 26, in swift response, the Air Component deployed combat aircraft to the affected areas, conducting multiple precision strikes that reportedly eliminated scores of terrorists and crippled their operational capacity.
The operation also succeeded in destroying critical logistics infrastructure, severely hampering the terrorists’ ability to regroup or launch further attacks.
According to the NAF, the success of the mission reflects the Force’s increasing effectiveness in rapid-response engagements and underscores the value of inter-agency cooperation in combating terrorism.
“These missions demonstrate the professionalism, coordination, and intelligence-driven approach of the Nigerian Air Force in safeguarding civilian lives and dismantling terror networks,” the statement noted.
The air operations form part of a broader military strategy aimed at restoring peace and stability across Niger State and the wider North Central zone.
The Nigerian Air Force reaffirmed its commitment to national security and pledged to sustain the momentum until peace was fully restored.
