In a move to strengthen its logistical capacity and enhance operational efficiency, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has successfully reconfigured four pre-owned fuel tankers into specialised aircraft refuelling bowsers.
The initiative, undertaken by the 643 Equipment Supply Depot in Lagos, underscores the commitment of the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, to institutionalise proactive logistics support, promote a robust maintenance culture, and foster innovation and resource optimisation within the Service.
“These reconfigured bowsers represent more than just fuel on wheels they embody our drive for self-reliance and operational adaptability.
"In an era where logistics speed and sustainability are critical to mission success, the NAF cannot afford to be reactive. We must anticipate, adapt, and innovate, said Air Marshal Abubakar.
According to a statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the new refuelling assets are expected to play a vital role in supporting ongoing air operations, particularly in counterterrorism campaigns and joint military deployments across the country.
Additionally, By enabling rapid and efficient aircraft refuelling, the NAF aims to reduce turnaround times, sustain air presence, and enhance its effectiveness in dynamic and challenging operational theatres.
“Asymmetric threats demand agile and sustained responses.
"Logistics must no longer be viewed as a background function but recognised as a critical enabler of frontline combat power, Air Marshal Abubakar added.
One of the newly converted bowsers has already been deployed to the 407 Air Combat Training Group in Kainji, while others are designated for strategic locations nationwide.
However, The deployment is expected to significantly bolster the NAF’s operational readiness and reflects its unwavering commitment to safeguarding national security and protecting all Nigerians.
