In a series of intensified counter-terrorism and anti-criminality operations across the country, Nigerian troops have neutralized no fewer than 192 terrorists and arrested 122 individuals linked to various forms of insecurity within the last week. This was disclosed by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Markus Kangye,during the weekly media briefing held at the Defence Headquarters, Abuja.
According to General Buba, the troops also successfully rescued 121 kidnapped victims and recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition in their continued efforts to combat terrorism, insurgency, and other security threats undermining national stability.
He noted that the operations, conducted in various theatres including the North East, North Central, North West, South South, and South East, yielded significant outcomes. Among the weapons recovered were 86 AK-47 rifles, 3,614 rounds of ammunition, 109 assorted arms, and 228 assorted magazines.
“In the South South, troops denied oil thieves an estimated sum of over N788 million in the past week alone, as a result of intensified anti-oil theft patrols and destruction of illegal refining sites,” General Buba revealed.
Additionally, he stressed that the military remained resolute in its mandate to defend Nigeria’s sovereignty and protect citizens from both external and internal threats.
“The armed forces are prosecuting the war against terrorists and their cohorts with renewed vigour and determination. We will continue to pursue them relentlessly until they are completely destroyed,” he stated.
The Defence Headquarters also emphasized the importance of public support and intelligence sharing, calling on citizens to cooperate with security forces to ensure enduring peace and security across all regions.
General Kangye,concluded by reassuring Nigerians that the military will not rest until the country is safe and secure for all.
