The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, led Nigeria’s delegation to the 53rd National Day celebrations of the Republic of Cameroon, held in Yaoundé, the nation's capital.
According to a statement by the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, General Musa expressed gratitude for the warm reception accorded to the Nigerian delegation.
He also reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening strategic partnerships with Cameroon and other neighbouring countries in addressing shared security challenges and advancing regional socio-economic development.
The National Day, also referred to as Unity Day, is celebrated annually to commemorate the unification of Cameroon. This year’s event, themed “Army and Nation United for a Cameroon Turned Towards Peace and Prosperity,” highlighted the country’s collective resolve for unity, peace, and progress.
The celebration was graced by President Paul Biya, senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and citizens from across the nation. It featured an array of activities including military exhibitions, defence equipment displays, solidarity marches, and ceremonial parades all reflecting Cameroon’s strength, cohesion, and aspirations for national development.
A key highlight was the performance of the Nigerian Armed Forces contingent the first and only foreign group invited to participate. Their display of precision drills, vibrant musical performances, and exceptional regimental coordination drew widespread admiration and applause from the large crowd in attendance.
The participation of the Nigerian military underscored the deep-rooted diplomatic and defence cooperation between Nigeria and Cameroon, reinforcing their mutual commitment to regional peace, security, and prosperity.
