The Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has approved the appointment of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu as the new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) of the Nigeria Police Force.
The appointment follows the exit of the outgoing Force Public Relations Officer, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Anthony Okon Placid, at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
In a statement confirming the development, the Nigeria Police Force said CSP Iniedu brings extensive experience in public communication, operational policing, intelligence management, institutional accountability, and administrative leadership to his new role.
A native of Etinan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, CSP Iniedu holds a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Pure Chemistry from the University of Uyo. He has also undertaken several professional trainings in investigative interviewing, crime scene management, human rights-based policing, strategic communication, and intelligence analysis.
Before his elevation, the new Force spokesperson served as Head of the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, where he coordinated the management of public complaints and spearheaded initiatives aimed at improving transparency, accountability, and public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.
He also previously served as Public Relations Officer at the Police College of Information Technology, Kobape, Ogun State, alongside several operational and administrative assignments across different formations of the Force.
Over the course of his career, CSP Iniedu has held several strategic positions, including Operations Officer at Maisandari Division in Yobe State Command; Area Crime Officer, Umuahia Area Command in Abia State; Staff Officer at the IGP Secretariat, Force Headquarters; Second-in-Command of 50 Police Mobile Force Squadron, Kubwa; and Officer-in-Charge of the Force Headquarters Situation Room, where he supervised the coordination and dissemination of nationwide crime and security information.
According to the police authorities, his appointment is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the Force Public Relations Department and enhance strategic communication between the police and members of the public.
The Inspector-General of Police expressed confidence in CSP Iniedu’s capacity to deliver on his new responsibilities, noting that his experience and professional background would further support ongoing policing reforms and improve public engagement.
The Nigeria Police Force also acknowledged the service of the outgoing Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, for his contributions to institutional communication and public relations during his tenure at the Force Headquarters.
The appointment takes immediate effect.
