The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd), has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting families of military personnel who die in the line of duty, assuring them of continuous care and access to the Ministry.
The assurance came during a meeting with Hassan Braimah, brother of the late Brigadier General Oseni Omoh Braimah, at the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Abuja.
According to a statement issued on by Leah Babatunde, Special Assistant to the Minister, the visit served as a moment of reflection on the sacrifice and service of the late senior officer.
Brigadier General Braimah, an Infantry officer of the Nigerian Army and Commander of the 29 Task Force Brigade, died in active service at Benisheikh on April 9, 2026. He was buried with full military honours at the Maimalari Cantonment Cemetery in Maiduguri on April 15, alongside seven other military personnel who also lost their lives in service to the nation.
During the visit, Hassan Braimah recalled his brother’s dedication to national duty, describing him as a committed and selfless officer whose life reflected unwavering patriotism.
He expressed pride in the late General’s sacrifice and assured the Defence Minister of the family’s determination to support those he left behind.
Responding, General Musa conveyed the condolences of the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Nigeria to the bereaved family, stressing that the welfare of families of fallen heroes remains a priority.
“The Armed Forces will never abandon the families of those who lay down their lives for this country,” the Minister stated. “We remain committed to providing assistance, care, and direct access to the Ministry whenever needed.”
He noted that the Ministry maintains an open-door policy to ensure sustained engagement and support for the families of deceased service personnel.
The meeting highlighted the nation’s appreciation for the sacrifices made by military personnel and underscored the Ministry’s resolve to preserve their legacy through continued support for their families.
