Troops of Sector 3, Joint Task Force (North East) under Operation HADIN KAI have repelled an isolated terrorist attack on their position at Charlie 13 in Monguno, Borno State.
According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the attack occurred in the late hours of April 12, 2026, when insurgents launched an infiltration attempt on the troops’ location.
The statement disclosed that following a fierce exchange of gunfire, the terrorists were successfully forced to retreat, with troops maintaining firm control of the position.
However, the operation recorded a tragic loss as the Commanding Officer, who had moved to the frontline to personally assess the situation, was killed after his vehicle struck an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). Six other personnel also lost their lives in the explosion.
The late Commanding Officer was described as a courageous and dedicated leader whose actions embodied the highest standards of military service. Despite the dangers, he had advanced towards the troops’ position after the attack to ensure their safety and operational effectiveness.
“His willingness to lead from the front, even after the immediate threat had been neutralised, reflects exceptional bravery, selfless service, and an unwavering commitment to duty,” the statement noted.
Operation HADIN KAI expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the officer and the six soldiers, describing them as gallant personnel who paid the supreme price in the defence of the nation.
The military assured that their sacrifices would not be in vain, reaffirming its commitment to sustaining operations against insurgents in the North-East region.
The incident underscores the persistent threat posed by terrorist elements in Borno State, even as security forces continue intensified efforts to restore lasting peace to the region.
