Troops of Headquarters 63 Brigade/Sector 1, Joint Task Force, South South, under Operation DELTA SAFE, have recorded a major breakthrough in ongoing efforts to combat criminal activities in the Niger Delta region, with the recovery of arms and the arrest of suspected criminals in Delta State.
The operation, which took place in Ogidigben Community, Warri South West Local Government Area, was executed following reports of sporadic gunfire that caused tension among residents.
According to a statement issued by Captain Iliyasu Bawa-Rijau, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 63 Brigade, Nigerian Army Asaba, troops acted on credible intelligence and responded swiftly to the distress call. During the operation, they recovered four AK-47 rifles, six magazines, and 106 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition. Other items confiscated include two knives, ten machetes, and four pairs of rain boots.
The operation also led to the arrest of two suspects, who are currently in military custody and undergoing further investigation.
Commending the troops for their prompt response and resilience, the Commander of 63 Brigade, Brigadier General Moronfolu Abdulmoshood Shonibare, urged them to maintain the current operational momentum in tackling criminal elements across the area.
He reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to denying criminals freedom of action and warned individuals or groups involved in illegal possession of arms or other criminal activities to desist or face decisive action. He added that security forces would intensify efforts to track down perpetrators and ensure lasting peace in the region.
