President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Jos, the Plateau State capital, in a renewed push to enforce his administration’s directive for the restoration of lasting peace in the region.
The visit comes in the wake of recent unrest in Unguwan Rukuba, located in Jos North Local Government Area, which has heightened tensions and drawn national concern. The President’s presence underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing insecurity and fostering stability in Plateau State.
Upon arrival at the Yakubu Gowon Airport, President Tinubu was received by Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, alongside members of the National and State Assemblies.
Also present to welcome the Commander-in-Chief were top security officials, including the Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa; the Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu; the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu; and senior commanders overseeing operations in the region.
Earlier in the day, the Chief of Army Staff conducted an on the spot assessment of the affected communities in Unguwan Rukuba. During the visit, Lt. Gen. Shaibu met with local leaders and residents, appealing for calm and cooperation with security agencies.
He urged law-abiding citizens to support ongoing efforts by providing credible and actionable intelligence to the military and other security forces. The Army Chief reaffirmed that the military remains resolute in executing the President’s directive to eliminate threats to peace and security.
He further emphasized that ongoing operations, particularly Operation ENDURING PEACE, are geared towards restoring normalcy and preventing further violence across Plateau State.
President Tinubu’s visit is seen as a strong signal of federal resolve to confront insecurity and ensure that communities in Plateau and beyond can live without fear.
