The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced a consequential adjustment to the campaign timeline for the forthcoming Osun State governorship election, following a shift in the election date.

INEC had earlier, released a revised timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general elections, in which the Osun governorship poll was moved forward by one week from August 8 to August 15, 2026.

In a statement issued by National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, the Commission explained that the adjustment necessitated a corresponding review of the campaign deadline.

According to the Commission, political parties are now required to end all campaign activities by midnight on Thursday, August 13, 2026. This is in line with Section 98(1) of the Electoral Act 2026, which stipulates that campaigns must cease 24 hours before election day.

INEC called on all political parties, candidates, and relevant stakeholders to strictly comply with the revised schedule to ensure a smooth electoral process.

The Commission reiterated its commitment to delivering free, fair, credible, and inclusive elections across the country.
