The nation has paid its final respects to Late Brigadier General Omo Braimah, Captain Azubuike Michael Esimai, and other soldiers who died in active service, as they were laid to rest in a solemn ceremony at the Maimalari Cantonment Cemetery.
The burial, held amid deep emotion and reflection, drew grieving families, military personnel and top government officials, all gathered to honour the fallen officers who paid the ultimate price in defence of Nigeria’s sovereignty.
The deceased soldiers were accorded full military honours, in recognition of their courage, dedication and unwavering commitment to duty. The ceremony underscored the sacrifices made daily by members of the Armed Forces in safeguarding the nation’s peace, unity and territorial integrity.
Among dignitaries present was the Governor of Borno State, Babagana Umara Zulum, alongside the Honourable Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, the Chief of Army Staff, and other senior military officers.
In separate tributes, the leaders described the fallen soldiers as patriots who stood resolute in the face of danger and made the ultimate sacrifice so that others might live in peace. They noted that the bravery and service of the deceased would continue to inspire future generations and remain indelible in the nation’s history.
Prayers were offered for the repose of their souls, while detailed citations of their service records were read in honour of their contributions to national security. The ceremony also brought into sharp focus the pain and loss borne by the families of the deceased, highlighting the human cost of the country’s ongoing security efforts.
As the nation mourns, the sacrifices of these fallen heroes serve as a poignant reminder that Nigeria’s stability and freedom come at a significant cost—paid by those who place duty above self in service to the fatherland.
