In a decisive effort to stem the growing security challenges in Plateau State, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has approved the immediate deployment of additional troops to reinforce ongoing military operations in the state.

The move, carried out under Operation ENDURING PEACE, comes amid rising tensions in parts of the state, with authorities intensifying efforts to restore calm and protect vulnerable communities.

According to the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, the deployment is aimed at strengthening the capacity of troops already on ground to de-escalate conflicts and maintain law and order in affected areas.

Speaking during a visit to the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force in Jos, the COAS charged officers and soldiers to remain professional, disciplined, and resolute in the face of threats posed by criminal elements. He emphasized the importance of upholding the rules of engagement while ensuring the safety of law-abiding citizens.

Lieutenant General Shaibu also reassured the troops of the Army’s commitment to their welfare, noting that adequate logistics and combat support have been put in place to enhance operational effectiveness.

The newly deployed contingent, numbering over 850 personnel, was drawn from military formations in Abuja and Kaduna. They have been tasked with safeguarding lives and property, as well as reinforcing security presence across communities in Plateau State.

Residents have expressed cautious optimism that the increased military presence will help restore stability and prevent further breakdown of law and order in the region.

Security analysts say the success of the operation will depend largely on sustained engagement, intelligence gathering, and cooperation between security agencies and local communities.
