The Headquarters, 8 Division of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, has hosted participants of the Air Force War College Course 12/2026 as part of a national study tour designed to enhance strategic air power integration in support of civil authority and national development.
The study tour, which underscores the link between field operations and the strategic deployment of air capabilities, is themed “State Resources and Air Power: National Development in Northwest Nigeria in Focus.” It is aimed at broadening participants’ understanding of how air power can contribute to improved security and socio-economic growth across the North-West region.
In a statement issued by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, the Commandant of the Air Force War College, Air Vice Marshal Gambo Mbaka, explained that participants had been divided into three teams for coordinated field engagements. According to him, Team A is currently in Sokoto State, Team B in Kebbi State, while Team C is operating in Zamfara State.
Mbaka noted that the tour is structured to provide firsthand exposure to the prevailing security challenges in the region, while also showcasing the collaborative efforts of the 8 Division, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, and other security agencies in addressing threats in the North-West.
He emphasized the importance of bridging theory with practical experience, stating that while classroom instruction in operational art and joint planning remains essential, direct interaction with operational environments significantly enhances professional judgment and readiness.
The Commandant also commended the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division, Major General Bemgba Koughna, for the warm reception and continued support extended to the delegation.
Representing the GOC, the Chief of Staff, Headquarters 8 Division, Brigadier General Ibrahim Gambari, welcomed the participants and reaffirmed the Division’s commitment to inter-agency collaboration and continuous capacity building within the Armed Forces.
Highlights of the visit included detailed briefings on the history, structure, and ongoing operations of the 8 Division and Operation FANSAN YAMMA. The participants also engaged with officials of the Sokoto State Government to gain insights into sub-national governance and security strategies.
As part of the tour’s cultural component, the delegation visited the Waziri Junaidu History and Culture Bureau, where they explored Sokoto’s rich historical heritage an experience considered vital for enhancing cultural awareness in military operations.
The initiative is expected to further strengthen joint operational effectiveness and foster a more integrated approach to national security management.
