The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to strengthening security collaboration with the Anambra State Government, as part of efforts to enhance peace and public safety in the state.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Command, Tochukwu Ikenga.
According to the statement, the IGP, represented by the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the South East, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, paid a courtesy visit to the Governor of Anambra State, Charles Chukwuma Soludo, at the Government House in Awka. The visit formed part of activities marking the governor’s second term inauguration.
Governor Soludo, while receiving the delegation, congratulated the IGP and the DIG on their appointments, describing their emergence as timely in view of the prevailing security challenges and the need for stronger collaboration to sustain peace and economic growth in the state.
He stressed the importance of sustained synergy between the Nigeria Police Force and the state government, assuring continued support towards strengthening the state’s security architecture and improving public safety.
The governor also appealed for police intervention in resolving a lingering traditional leadership dispute in Awka, noting that a panel of enquiry had already concluded its findings on the matter.
In his remarks, the DIG appreciated the warm reception accorded the delegation and reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to deepening strategic partnerships with the state government and other stakeholders to ensure the protection of lives and property.
The delegation included the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ikioye Orutugu.
The visit, according to the statement, underscores the resolve of the Nigeria Police Force to sustain peace, security, and public safety in Anambra State and across the South-East region.
