Incredible news for Nigeria Wrestling Federation in Collaboration with the Bayelsa State Government as history set to start on the sand! Also, many sports pundits and enthusiasts believe that Alhaji Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, newly elected (Nigeria Wrestling Federation President) is continuing the Honorable Daniel Baraladei Igali (Bayelsa Commissioner of Sports and United World Wrestling) member successful stride in the board.
However, the 4th edition of the Governor Douye Diri National Wrestling Classics begins from March 24th till 2nd of April, 2026 at Samson Siasia Stadium while the Beach Wrestling event for the U15 to U-17 male and female category will stage live at Bayelsa Medical University, Imgbi Rd, Amarata, Yenagoa — March 25, 2026.
In the meantime, the participants have received a major boost as organisers acquire mattresses in an effort to make athletes comfortable during the championship.
The Commissioner for Sports Development, Bayelsa State, Honourable Daniel Igali, who was accompanied by two board members of the Federation, Lt Colonel Okou Timipre and Olympic silver medalist Blessing Oborududu on Thursday purchased the mattresses as preparations get into top gear.
Igali commended the level of work done so far, expressing optimism that this year’s edition would undoubtedly be the best Wrestling Classics the Federation has ever had.
World Champion and Honourable Igali confirmed that there would be free feeding for over 600 expected athletes with arrival starting on 22nd March to 23rd.
Adding that the Games Village would have a lot of attractions that will excite contingents across the Nation.
Meanwhile, the ramble and fierce competition will feature Eight weight classes from 10am–1pm (Qualifiers) as 4pm–6pm will stage the (Finals). And it's One arena and Pure action that will experience the rich cultural dance and music exhibition of the Oil-Producing State in the South-South region in Nigeria.
