Competition intensified on Day 2 of the ongoing National Para Games in Abuja, with several events kick starting and others holding technical meetings ahead of full action.
At the indoor sports hall of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, para table tennis took centre stage, recording participation from 26 states a notable increase from previous editions. Events began with the sitting category, as early dominance emerged from states like Bayelsa, Edo, and Enugu, all opening their gold medal accounts.
At the FIFA Goal Project Pitch, amputee football fixtures also got underway, featuring teams from Lagos, Plateau, and Jigawa among others, showcasing skill and competitiveness.
Para soccer matches were equally engaging, with Team Jigawa taking on Team Adamawa, while Bauchi and other states remained on standby for upcoming fixtures.
Meanwhile, preparations continued at the gymnasium hall for para badminton and para powerlifting events, set to run concurrently, while para canoeing events are scheduled at Jabi Lake.
Organisers continue to maximize the facilities at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, with Packages A and B effectively adapted to meet the specific standards required for the various sports.
More events are expected to commence as the Games gather momentum in the coming days.
