Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for equipping the Nigerian Army with modern weapons and critical combat equipment to confront evolving security threats across the country.

Governor Alia gave the commendation on Thursday, March 5, 2026, while receiving the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, during a courtesy visit at the Government House in Makurdi.

The governor praised the President’s support to the Armed Forces, noting that the provision of sophisticated weapons and operational enablers has significantly strengthened the Army’s capacity to tackle insecurity, particularly in states grappling with persistent threats.

According to a statement issued by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the Army Chief assured the governor that the Nigerian Army is intensifying efforts to boost its operational readiness in Benue and other parts of the country.

He explained that the recent acquisition of modern platforms and equipment facilitated by the backing of President Tinubu would greatly enhance troop effectiveness in ongoing operations.

Lt.-Gen. Shaibu also commended the Benue State Government and its citizens for their resilience and sustained cooperation with security agencies despite prevailing challenges in some communities.

He specifically appreciated the support extended to troops under Operation WHIRL STROKE, noting that such collaboration has contributed meaningfully to operational gains recorded so far.

The Army Chief emphasized the importance of synergy among the military, civil authorities and local communities, stressing that intelligence sharing and community support remain critical to restoring lasting peace and stability.

In his response, Governor Alia described the COAS’s visit as timely and reassuring, particularly at a period requiring intensified security interventions.

He applauded the Nigerian Army for its steadfast commitment to safeguarding lives and property and welcomed the deployment of additional troops to reinforce ongoing operations in the state.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering support for the Nigerian Army and other security agencies, expressing confidence that sustained collaboration would accelerate efforts to curb criminality and restore enduring peace across Benue State.
