Former Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Oladayo Amao (Rtd.), has described unity and high morale as critical pillars for achieving sustained operational success in the Nigerian Air Force (NAF).
Air Marshal Amao made the remarks while speaking as Special Guest of Honour at the Base Social Activities (BASA) 2025, held in Abuja, an event that brought together NAF personnel, their families and other stakeholders in a celebration of service, culture and shared identity.
In a statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Headquarters Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the former CAS commended the Service for sustaining BASA as a core aspect of its institutional culture. He noted that beyond its social appeal, the initiative serves as a strategic platform for fostering cohesion among personnel drawn from Nigeria’s diverse backgrounds.
Amao praised the leadership of the current Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, noting that under his guidance, BASA has evolved into more than a social gathering. According to him, the programme now stands as a practical demonstration of how unity and morale translate into operational effectiveness.
Reflecting on the colourful cultural displays that marked the event, the former Air Force chief said they symbolised national unity in service. He stressed that such bonds are not created by regulations alone but are strengthened through shared experiences that build trust, esprit de corps and the psychological resilience required for demanding military operations.
He further lauded the Nigerian Air Force’s operational performance in 2025 across various theatres, attributing part of its success to the unity and morale reinforced through initiatives such as BASA. Amao emphasised the need to sustain this sense of togetherness as the Service continues to confront evolving security challenges.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the Commander, Base Services Group, Abuja, Air Commodore I. E. Imoke, described BASA 2025 as a unifying platform that promotes camaraderie, welfare and shared values within the NAF community. He said the event strengthens bonds beyond the workplace and renews collective commitment to the Service’s mission.
BASA 2025 concluded on a note of pride and optimism, reaffirming the belief that a united force remains a strong force, as the Nigerian Air Force continues to prioritise the human spirit behind its operational strength.
