The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has urged store officers across the Scheme to uphold professionalism, transparency and strict adherence to due process in managing government property.
Speaking at the 2026 Store Officers’ Workshop held at Bolingo Xperia Hotel, the NYSC chief emphasised that effective store administration is central to the successful execution of the Scheme’s programmes nationwide.
General Nafiu, whose address was delivered by the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Nura Umar, called on officers to demonstrate prudence, integrity and accountability in their duties to guarantee efficient service delivery.
He stressed the need for diligence and accuracy in record keeping, alongside strict compliance with established storekeeping procedures, inventory management policies and administrative regulations.
The statement said that, the Director-General reaffirmed management’s commitment to sustained staff development through periodic training aimed at boosting performance and ensuring seamless operational processes.
He reminded participants that store officers serve as custodians of public assets and warned against negligence in the handling of government resources.
According to him, store management remains vital to the implementation of NYSC programmes at orientation camps, state secretariats, area offices and the national headquarters, noting that kits, camp equipment, office supplies and other operational materials must be properly received, documented, stored and issued in line with approved procedures. Any lapse, he cautioned, could weaken service delivery and diminish public trust in the Scheme.
In her opening remarks, Acting Director of General Services, Yetunde Baderinwa, described the workshop as an important platform for experience sharing and the adoption of modern best practices in store management, inventory control and documentation.
The workshop, themed “Efficient Store Keeping: A Pillar of Accountability and Service Delivery in NYSC,” attracted store officers from formations across the 36 states, the FCT Secretariat and the national headquarters.
