Nigeria and the United Kingdom have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral defence cooperation as part of efforts to address evolving security challenges and enhance regional stability.
The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General O.O. Oluyede, received the United Kingdom High Commissioner to Nigeria, Richard Montgomery, at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja.
General Oluyede expressed appreciation to the United Kingdom for its long-standing partnership with the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN), particularly in the areas of Professional Military Education, specialised training and operational capacity development.
He noted that such cooperation remains critical to Nigeria’s quest to strengthen national and regional security frameworks.
The CDS reaffirmed the AFN’s commitment to continuous professional development and stressed the need to expand mutually beneficial defence relations.
Additionally, He expressed optimism that enhanced collaboration with the United Kingdom, especially in emerging security domains and intelligence support, would further improve operational effectiveness.
In his remarks, Montgomery congratulated General Oluyede on his distinguished service and commended the steady progress achieved in defence cooperation between both countries.
He reiterated the United Kingdom’s commitment to strengthening defence ties with Nigeria, noting that both nations share a common responsibility in promoting regional stability, addressing emerging security challenges and building sustainable military capacity.
The high-level engagement focused on enhancing operational and strategic cooperation between the Armed Forces of Nigeria and the United Kingdom in response to dynamic regional and global security threats.
The meeting underscored the importance of sustained international defence collaboration in responding to contemporary security realities.
