Commodore Aiwuyor Augustine Adams-Aliu has officially taken over as Commander of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT, bringing to the prestigious command over two decades of distinguished military service, strategic expertise and international experience.
Born on December 15, 1977, in Lagos, Commodore Adams-Aliu began his academic journey at Shepherd Hill Primary School, Lagos, before proceeding to King’s College, Lagos. In 1995, he gained admission into the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry in 1999. He was commissioned into the Nigerian Navy in 2000 as a member of the 47 Regular Course.
Throughout his career, he has undertaken extensive professional military education both locally and internationally. He attended the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Nigeria, completing the Junior and Senior Staff Courses in 2004 and 2010 respectively. Between November 2007 and June 2008, he participated in the Captain Career Course at the United States Army Infantry School, Fort Benning, Georgia.
Further strengthening his strategic and operational competence, Commodore Adams-Aliu graduated from the Naval War College Nigeria in 2018 and the United States Naval War College, Rhode Island, in 2019. From July 2020 to June 2021, he attended the National Defence University (NDU), Washington DC, where he obtained a Master of Arts degree in Strategic Security Studies. While at NDU.
Furthermore, he distinguished himself by winning the Ambassador’s Award as the Most Outstanding International Fellow at the College of International Security Affairs in 2021.
Commodore Adams-Aliu began his naval career as a Watch Keeping Officer aboard several Nigerian Navy ships between 2000 and 2004. He later served as a Military Observer with the United Nations Mission in Liberia from 2011 to 2012, gaining valuable multinational operational experience.
He has held several key command and staff appointments, including Officer-in-Charge of Nigerian Navy Ship BENIN and Squadron Commander of the SHALDAG Boat Squadron from 2013 to 2014. Between 2016 and 2018, he served as the pioneer Commanding Officer of Nigerian Navy Ship KARADUWA and later as Executive Officer of Forward Operating Base FORMOSO.
From 2019 to 2020, he was Principal Staff Officer (Navy) to the Chief of Defence Staff. Following his graduation from the National Defence University in 2021, he was appointed Directing Staff and Faculty Member at the Naval War College Nigeria, where he specialised in Operational Art and Campaign Planning, with particular expertise in the planning and conduct of wargames.
In March 2023, he assumed command as Commanding Officer, Forward Operating Base BADAGRY. He was appointed Deputy Director of Plans at Naval Headquarters in January 2024, and subsequently served as Director of Naval Information and official spokesperson of the Nigerian Navy. He held that position until his appointment as Commander, NNS BEECROFT, which he assumed on February 11, 2026.
Commodore Adams-Aliu is a recipient of several awards and decorations, including the Distinguished Service Star, Passed Staff Course (PSC), United Nations Medal, Nigerian Navy Command at Sea Badge, and Distinguished Fellow of the Naval War College.
He is also a member of several professional bodies, including the United States Naval Institute, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Chartered Institute of Personnel Management, International Institute of Professional Security, and the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs.
He is married to Loretta Adams-Aliu, and their union is blessed with three children two daughters and a son. In his leisure time, he enjoys long walks, spiritual reflection and watching football.
