The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has charged pioneer instructors at the Depot Nigerian Army, Amasiri–Edda, to establish a strong foundation of discipline, professionalism and excellence that will define the institution for generations to come.
The Army Chief gave the charge during an operational visit to the Depot Nigerian Army Amasiri–Edda Temporary Training Area situated within the Jaji Military Cantonment.
In a statement issued by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Depot Nigerian Army Amasiri–Edda, Captain Sarah Seth Barka, the COAS underscored the pivotal role of instructors in shaping the character, competence and operational readiness of recruits.
Lieutenant General Shaibu stressed that as pioneer instructors, their actions and standards would form the bedrock upon which the Depot’s reputation, effectiveness and enduring legacy would be built. He urged them to uphold the highest standards of discipline, professionalism and instructional excellence in the discharge of their duties.
He further encouraged the instructors to seize the rare opportunity to contribute meaningfully to national security by moulding recruits into competent, loyal and resilient soldiers capable of addressing Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
Earlier in his briefing, the Commandant, Depot Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ahmed Ahmadu, highlighted the progress made so far, ongoing training activities and future plans for the institution. He noted that the establishment of the Depot is strategically aimed at expanding the Nigerian Army’s training capacity and transforming eligible youths into disciplined and professional soldiers.
A major highlight of the visit was the COAS’ comprehensive tour of the temporary training area. During the inspection, he assessed key facilities including recruits’ accommodation, lecture halls, sanitation facilities, the Medical Reception Station and the cookhouse to evaluate infrastructure standards and welfare provisions.
The Army Chief also observed live training sessions and practical demonstrations by recruits, including weapon handling drills on the AK-47 rifle, RPG-7 and hand grenade exercises.
The visit, according to military authorities, reflects the Nigerian Army’s commitment to strengthening its training institutions and ensuring that newly established formations meet the highest operational and welfare standards in line with global best practices.
