The Chief of Defence Staff, Olufemi Oluyede, has charged troops of the Joint Task Force South-South, Operation Delta Safe, to carry out their responsibilities with the highest level of professionalism and integrity.
Oluyede gave the directive on during the commissioning of an ultra-modern Non-Commissioned Officers’ accommodation and a remodelled conference hall at the Headquarters of Joint Task Force South-South Operation Delta Safe in Igbogene, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
In a statement signed by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba. The CDS cautioned personnel against engaging in illegal activities or compromising their duties, particularly in the protection of oil infrastructure, which he described as critical to Nigeria’s economic sustainability.
He reaffirmed his commitment to improving the welfare and working conditions of Armed Forces personnel through enhanced welfare packages currently under consideration.
Oluyede commended the Commander of the Joint Task Force, Rear Admiral Olugbenga Oladipo, for successfully executing the projects, noting that they have added value to the system and improved operational capacity.
In his remarks, Oladipo expressed appreciation to the CDS for attending the commissioning despite his tight schedule. He explained that the projects were conceived in line with the CDS’s military strategic philosophy, which prioritises troop welfare.
According to him, the newly constructed Non-Commissioned Officers’ accommodation comprises 24 apartments equipped with 24-hour solar power, water facilities, beddings and cooling systems to enhance the comfort of personnel.
He reiterated his commitment to prioritising the welfare of officers and men to boost morale and ensure the continued delivery of the task force’s mandate, which includes protecting oil and gas infrastructure, deterring militancy, curbing sea robbery, and safeguarding lives and property across the Niger Delta.
Dignitaries at the event included the General Officer Commanding 6 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Emmanuel Emekah; the Air Officer Commanding Mobility Command, represented by Air Vice Marshal J.J. Ijugigal; the Commander 16 Brigade, Brigadier General Nurulhayat Mohammed; and other principal staff officers from Defence Headquarters.
