The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has expressed strong confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will secure a convincing victory in the 2027 presidential election, calling on Nigerians and political stakeholders to rally behind the President’s ongoing reform programme.

Speaking at his residence in Abuja, Matawalle condemned what he described as premature political manoeuvres aimed at undermining the Tinubu administration, warning that such actions could threaten Nigeria’s democratic stability.

According to him, attempts to unseat the President ahead of the next election are driven largely by personal ambitions rather than national interest.

“President Tinubu has taken bold steps to stabilise the economy and strengthen national institutions.

"Those plotting against him are motivated by self-serving interests, not the public good, Matawalle said.

He cautioned that factionalism and early power struggles distract leaders from governance and weaken public confidence in democratic institutions.

The minister highlighted what he described as noticeable progress across the country, particularly in the North, attributing the improvements to the President’s policies and leadership.

Matawalle urged political actors to embrace constructive engagement instead of destabilising tactics, stressing the need for unity in support of reforms aimed at economic recovery, stronger institutions and national cohesion.

“Let us focus on solutions that deliver jobs, security and stronger institutions for Nigerians, rather than rancour and short-term political gains,” he added.
