The Kano State Police Command has impounded 104 commercial motorcycles and 68 tricycles while arresting 172 suspects during a week-long enforcement operation aimed at ensuring compliance with existing transport restrictions in the state metropolis.
The enforcement exercise, carried out between January 1 and 7, 2026, was conducted in collaboration with other security agencies to uphold the ban on the use of motorcycles (popularly known as Achaba or Okada) for commercial passenger conveyance, as well as the restriction of tricycles from operating between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
Police authorities confirmed that all suspects arrested in connection with the violations have been charged to court for prosecution.
Commending the outcome of the operation, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, expressed appreciation to residents of the state for their cooperation and understanding. He also praised the combined efforts of sister security agencies, particularly the Kano Road and Traffic Agency (KAROTA), for their role in enforcing the regulations.
The police reiterated that the ban and time restriction remain in force across key parts of the metropolis, including Kano Municipal, Gwale, Dala, Fagge, Nassarawa, Tarauni, Kumbotso, Ungogo (Jido Area), and Dawakin Kudu Local Government Areas, covering Tamburawa, Gurjiya, and Jido Ward.
Residents were urged to comply with the regulations in the interest of public safety and to report violations or suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines: 08032419754, 08123821575, and 09029292926.
The Kano State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order and assured the public that enforcement efforts would continue to ensure the safety and security of lives and property across the state.
