The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division of the Nigerian Army and Commander, Sector 2 Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Bemgba Paul Koughna, has carried out an assessment visit to Tidibale community in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State, reaffirming the Army’s commitment to strengthened security and lasting peace in the area.
The visit, which formed part of his first official engagements since assuming command, followed the recent safe return of residents who had earlier fled the community due to threats from bandits.
Major General Koughna said the assessment was aimed at evaluating the security situation and ensuring that normalcy is fully restored in Tidibale.
He reiterated the Nigerian Army’s resolve to protect lives and property, stressing that the safety of communities remains a top priority. According to him, sustained military presence in the area would enable residents to go about their daily activities, particularly farming, without fear of intimidation or attack.
The GOC disclosed that troops have been deployed and are now permanently stationed in Tidibale to maintain a strong security presence, remain vigilant, and respond swiftly to any emerging threats. He assured the residents that no part of the community would be allowed to fall under the control of bandits or criminal elements.
Major General Koughna also urged community members to remain alert and cooperate with security agencies by promptly reporting any suspicious movements or activities, noting that effective collaboration between the military and local communities is essential to achieving lasting peace and security.
Speaking on behalf of the Tidibale community, the Sarkin Arewa, Alhaji Ibrahim, expressed profound appreciation to the GOC for the timely visit, describing it as a morale booster for residents amid prevailing security challenges. He said the Army’s intervention has renewed hope among the people and restored confidence in their ability to return to normal life.
He commended the Nigerian Army for its sustained efforts to secure the community and expressed confidence in the GOC’s determination to bring enduring peace and stability to the area.
Earlier, on arrival at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Isa, Major General Koughna received a comprehensive operational briefing from the Commanding Officer, 26 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Nasiru Mustapha. The briefing provided an overview of the prevailing security situation and ongoing operations within the area of responsibility.
The Nigerian Army has continued to reaffirm its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the North West, working closely with local communities and other stakeholders to achieve sustainable peace and security in the region.
