The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to the welfare of officers and soldiers of 6 Division, assuring them that their wellbeing remains a top priority under his command.
The assurance was given during his maiden operational visit to the Headquarters of 6 Division at Port Harcourt Barracks, Rivers State, where he addressed troops at the 29 Battalion Parade Ground.
The visit also formed part of the COAS’ ongoing engagements with formations and units across the country to assess operational readiness and address emerging challenges.
Lieutenant General Shaibu said he has continued to undertake field visits since assuming office in order to obtain firsthand information on the operational environment and the welfare needs of personnel.
He noted that deliberate measures are being implemented to address identified challenges, stressing that the welfare of officers, soldiers and their families remains central to his leadership focus.
The COAS charged troops of the Division to remain resolute in the discharge of their responsibilities, particularly in safeguarding critical national infrastructure and supporting increased oil production in the Niger Delta Region through sustained security operations.
Additionally, he also urged them to uphold professionalism, discipline and dedication in line with the Division’s mandate and his command philosophy.
Earlier, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division, Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah, briefed the COAS on the Division’s ongoing operations and activities within the Niger Delta Region.
The GOC also conducted the Army Chief around ongoing projects within the barracks, reaffirming the Division’s commitment to effectively implementing the COAS’ command philosophy.
Highlights of the visit included a symbolic tree-planting exercise by the COAS alongside accompanying Principal Staff Officers, as well as an interactive session with officers and soldiers, during which he further reiterated his commitment to enhancing their welfare and operational effectiveness.
