The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has urged the Scheme’s Internal Auditors to embrace digital innovation as a means of strengthening accountability and improving service delivery.
Speaking at a workshop organised for NYSC auditors, the Director-General, who was represented by the Director of Human Resource Management, Alhaji Ibrahim Muhammad, emphasised that the adoption of digital tools was critical to achieving accurate cash-flow forecasting, real-time budget tracking and data-driven decision-making.
According to him, moving away from traditional paper-based systems would enable real-time monitoring and verification of transactions, while significantly reducing human error and operational inefficiencies.
He noted that the theme of the workshop, “Strengthening Accountability through Digital Innovation in Audit Process: A Catalyst for Strategic Cash Planning,” was timely, as it underscored the importance of financial prudence in guiding the NYSC towards greater operational efficiency through the use of modern digital platforms.
The Director-General described auditors as key gatekeepers in any organisation, tasked with ensuring financial discipline and curbing excesses in daily transactions. He reaffirmed the commitment of NYSC management to transparency and accountability in all financial dealings, in line with the Scheme’s mandate of promoting national unity, integration and all-round development.
“Transparency is a vital pillar of trust in every organisation. As auditors, you must not compromise standards,” he stated.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the Director of Internal Audit, Levi Agim, explained that the workshop was designed to explore the strategic integration of digital tools to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in the NYSC’s internal audit processes.
Goodwill messages were delivered by Mathias Nicholas of the House of Representatives; James Nda Abalaka of the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS), Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation; and a former NYSC Director of Internal Audit, Leke Abiodun.
