The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has assured parents and Nigerians that the rescue of pupils abducted from St. Mary’s Catholic School, Agwara, Niger State, remains a top national security priority.
In a statement signed by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, on behalf of the Chief of Defence Staff, the military said it fully understands the anxiety of parents and the public following the incident. It emphasised that all available resources are being deployed to ensure the safe return of the children.
According to the DHQ, troops and security agencies are working tirelessly and collaboratively to track the abductors and secure the release of the pupils. The statement stressed that the safety of the children remains paramount, and efforts will continue until every child is reunited with their family.
The DHQ also appealed to members of the public and the media to refrain from sharing unverified information, warning that such speculation could jeopardise ongoing operations. It advised parents, residents, and community leaders to promptly report any credible information that could support the rescue efforts.
Additionally, the military pledged to sustain pressure on the abductors and ensure that justice is served, while assuring families of the abducted children that the armed forces stand firmly with them during this difficult period.
