The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd.), has charged newly promoted senior officers of the Nigerian Army to raise the bar of professionalism and operational effectiveness as they assume higher responsibilities.
Twenty-eight senior officers were decorated with their new ranks during a ceremony held at the Army Headquarters Command Officers’ Mess, Abuja. The event was announced in a statement by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele.
General Musa, who served as Special Guest of Honour, commended the officers for their courage, professionalism and years of loyal service to the nation. He noted that their promotion reflects their steadfast contributions to national security and the ongoing efforts to further strengthen the Nigerian Army.
He urged the officers to bring renewed vigour to tackling emerging security challenges, stressing that their new positions place them at the heart of strategic decision-making. “These officers represent some of the finest leadership within our Armed Forces,” he said, expressing pride in their accomplishments.
The Defence Minister also highlighted the importance of enhanced inter-service cooperation, intelligence sharing and synergy among all security agencies. He acknowledged the vital support of the officers’ families and reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to improving welfare and operational conditions for military personnel.
General Musa conveyed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s congratulations to the newly promoted officers, assuring that the administration remains committed to equipping the Armed Forces with improved resources and capabilities.
Earlier, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, described the ceremony as a celebration of integrity, competence and loyalty. He emphasized that promotions in the Nigerian Army remain merit-based, transparent and aimed at encouraging excellence.
He outlined ongoing efforts to boost morale and welfare across the service, including improved healthcare, upgraded infrastructure and conducive working conditions. The COAS added that the promotion of the 28 senior officers reflects confidence in their ability to take on higher responsibilities and contribute to both national and international peace and security.
Speaking on behalf of the newly promoted officers, Major General Francis Omata thanked President Tinubu for approving their elevations. He pledged absolute loyalty and renewed commitment to national service, while also appreciating the Defence Minister and COAS for their visionary leadership and mentorship.
The ceremony attracted dignitaries including former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, the Minister of State for Finance, members of the National Assembly, Service Chiefs, the Inspector General of Police, former Service Chiefs, principal staff officers from Defence and Service Headquarters, Corps Commanders, Commandants of training institutions and the President of the Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA).
