The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, has outlined a refreshed strategic direction for the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), reaffirming a firm commitment to enhanced air power readiness, personnel welfare, and intelligence-driven operations.
Aneke, while addressing officers, airmen, airwomen, and civilian staff during a durbar, the Air Marshal emphasised his newly unveiled Command Philosophy: “To enhance and sustain a highly motivated, professional and mission-ready force capable of delivering decisive air power effects in synergy with surface forces for the realisation of national security objectives.”
He noted that though succinct, the philosophy captures the strategic mindset required to confront Nigeria’s dynamic security challenges.
Describing TAC as central to the NAF’s operational successes, he praised its contributions to Operation WHIRL STROKE and other theatres, adding that the Command’s professionalism and resilience continue to inspire national confidence.
While commending personnel for their sacrifices, the CAS warned that the nation’s security threats demand heightened alertness and operational intensity. He tasked commanders to sustain pressure on banditry within their Area of Responsibility and maintain critical support to joint operations across the country.
"This is not the time to slow down,” he said. “To stay ahead, we must uphold the best standards of serviceability, weapons readiness, and personnel proficiency.”
Reiterating his administration’s “Welfare for Enhanced Warfare” policy, Air Marshal Aneke stressed that mission effectiveness is directly tied to troop motivation. He assured personnel that Headquarters NAF would continue prioritising prompt allowances, improved living and working conditions, and strengthened medical and administrative systems. He encouraged open communication, noting that candid feedback is essential to sustaining fighting power.
The CAS also highlighted the NAF’s growing emphasis on intelligence-led, technology-supported air operations, backed by a revitalised safety culture. With the Federal Government’s significant investments in new aircraft, precision armaments, and advanced training, he said it was imperative for the Service to produce measurable, professional results.
Additionally, Air Marshal Aneke reaffirmed his commitment to a safe, supportive, and high-performing environment for all personnel, stressing that welfare, career growth, and operational excellence will remain the pillars of his leadership.
Responding, the Air Officer Commanding Tactical Air Command, Air Vice Marshal Patrick Obeya, welcomed the CAS’s guidance and pledged TAC’s full alignment with his vision. He assured that personnel remain motivated and ready to deliver decisive air power across all operational theatres.
Aneke, commended their dedication, adding: “Together, we will build a force that is agile, innovative, and capable of delivering air power wherever the nation requires.”
