The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has discredited a fake press release making the rounds on social media and messaging platforms, which falsely claims that candidates have been shortlisted for a Computer-Based Test (CBT) scheduled for July 2025 as part of its ongoing recruitment exercise.

In an official statement signed by the National Public Relations Officer, Assistant Comptroller Abdullahi Maiwada, the Service categorically described the circulating document as “fraudulent, misleading, and completely unauthorised.”

“The Nigeria Customs Service did not issue any such announcement,” the statement clarified. “The publication is a fabrication designed to mislead the public and exploit unsuspecting applicants.

According to the NCS, a close examination of the fake release revealed several irregularities, including inconsistencies in formatting and the use of an unfamiliar e-signature style that does not align with the Service’s official communications. The recruitment timeline mentioned in the false notice also lacks any connection to the actual recruitment process.

However, the Service acknowledged the high public interest in its recruitment exercise and advised Nigerians to disregard unverified claims. It stressed that all genuine updates and announcements will be made exclusively through the NCS official website, verified social media handles, and recognised national newspapers.

The NCS further disclosed that it is actively investigating the source of the fake document and pledged to take necessary legal actions against those behind the misinformation.

Appreciating the vigilance of the public, the NCS reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the protection of applicants from fraudulent schemes.

“When the next phase of the recruitment process is ready, the public will be duly informed through appropriate and verifiable channels,” the statement concluded.
