Hundreds of women residing in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps at Igbudu ortom,Near Daudu, a town in Guma local Govt Area of Benue state have taken to the streets in protest, calling on the state government to facilitate their safe return to their ancestral homes.
The protesting women, visibly distressed, said they were tired of living in camps under harsh conditions and depending on handouts to survive.
According to them, their only plea to the government is to find a way to restore peace and security in their communities so they can return and rebuild their lives.
“We are tired of begging for food every day. All we want is to go back to our villages,” one of the protesters lamented.
The women, many of whom are widows and mothers, said they have endured years of displacement due to persistent attacks by armed herders and bandits, which have rendered several communities in Benue uninhabitable.
Additionally, some said they have stayed there for more than 6 years, their relatives died and are buried in an unspeakable way.
Their demonstration is the latest in a series of appeals by displaced persons in the state, urging authorities to prioritize security and resettlement efforts over prolonged camp-based relief.
