The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as an exemplary leader, patriot, and distinguished military officer.
In a condolence message on behalf of the Service Chiefs and personnel of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN), General Musa extended heartfelt sympathies to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the family of the late President, and the entire nation.
The message, conveyed through the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, paid glowing tribute to Buhari’s life of service, integrity, and unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s unity and progress.
“President Muhammadu Buhari was a symbol of dedication to national service. His life was defined by discipline, integrity, and a relentless pursuit of national unity,” General Musa said.
He noted that Buhari’s contributions as a former military Head of State and later as a democratically elected President have left an indelible mark on Nigeria’s political and security landscape. “His legacy as a gallant officer and incorruptible leader is written in gold,” he added.
The CDS Highlighted the former president’s principled stance on discipline and rule of law, he said, his zero tolerance for indiscipline and firm leadership style remain worthy of emulation by future generations.
General Musa prayed for the peaceful repose of the late President’s soul and asked Almighty Allah to grant his family and the nation the strength to bear the loss of a revered elder statesman.
President Muhammadu Buhari passed away in London at the age of 82 after a brief illness.
