In a renewed push to strengthen civilian protection and deepen community trust, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has reaffirmed its commitment to upholding international humanitarian standards across all operations. This was demonstrated through a strategic visit to troops under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Sector 2, in the North West region.
The visit, directed by the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, was led by the Chief of Civil-Military Relations (CCMR), Air Vice Marshal Ibikunle Daramola, as part of ongoing efforts to reinforce the CAS’s vision of a mission-ready and people-focused Air Force.
While addressing frontline personnel, AVM Daramola commended the Air Component for its recent tactical successes, attributing the progress to the strategic leadership of the CAS. He emphasised the need for precision strikes and strict adherence to rules of engagement to maintain public trust.
“Every action we take must reflect tactical precision and strategic empathy,” he said. “Our legitimacy comes from the people, he added.
He also stressed the vital role of community support in intelligence gathering, calling for greater cooperation to help neutralise threats. “This is the people’s Air Force. Their trust and timely intelligence are crucial to our success,” he added.
The Air Component Commander, Air Commodore Garba Ibrahim Jibia, described the visit as a morale booster and a clear indication of sustained support from NAF Headquarters.
The engagement aligns with the CAS’s directive that all operations must comply with international humanitarian law and best practices. It further underlines NAF’s commitment to professionalism, precision targeting, and civil-military synergy in its evolving national security strategy.
As NAF continues to blend kinetic action with non-kinetic initiatives, protecting civilian lives and strengthening community engagement remain central pillars of its operational doctrine.
